Mostly every record in MPulse has a section labeled Media. The Media section uses your web browser to display files. The types of files you can link include:
You can create media files using scanned objects, digital photographs, digital movies and digital recordings. Here are some examples of ways to use media files:
MPulse does NOT store the media file in its database. MPulse stores the link to the media file in its database. It is important that everyone who uses MPulse has access to where you have stored the actual files and the link is accessible by all users.
Media files can be stored in the following ways:
Your organization can set up an ftp server and store your media on that ftp server. An FTP Server is a web server from which you can download or upload files, images and documents to and from for displaying content in the MPulse media tab. When using this option, MPulse copies the linked file from its original location to the FTP Server. MPulse then stores the location of the file on the FTP Server. When the media file is requested for viewing, the file is downloaded to the MPulse Web Server from the FTP Server and displayed to the user.
Please note that FTP Servers are not provided by MPulse and are not configured using MPulse tools. Local IT departments should be consulted regarding usage and configuration of an FTP Server. It is also important to consider how the media files will be backed up. The MPulse database stores only the file path and not the actual files. Please be sure to consider this when designing a backup solution.
User has the option to choose either 'Secure File Transfer Protocol' or 'File Transfer Protocol'.
SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol/Secure File Transfer Protocol) was designed as an extension of SSH to provide file transfer capability, so it usually uses only the SSH port for both data and control.
To setup SFTP
- Click Edit icon (on top right).
- Select the Storage type as 'FTP Server'.
- Choose the FTP protocol as 'Secure File Transfer Protocol'.
- Enter the server path.
- Enter the Authentication details if required
- Click Save icon (on top right).
The 'Amazon S3' option integrated with MPulse is provided by Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service). Amazon S3 is an online storage web service offered by Amazon Web Services. Amazon S3 provides unlimited storage through a simple web services interface. Amazon launched S3, its first publicly-available web service, in the United States in March 2006 and in Europe in November 2007. To use the Cloud Storage option in MPulse you must first establish an account for your organization with the Amazon S3 service. For further information go to the MPulse Support Portal.
